The King will reply, 'Tell you the truth, whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'
- Matthew 25:40 (NIV)
Established in 1986, The Samaritan Shelter is a growing christian ministry located in Pocomoke City, Maryland that offers needed assistance in an encouraging and accountable environment to individuals in a crisis situtation. In 2009 the shelter expanded and opened a 5-bedroom Women's and Children's Wing aimed specifically at a growing need in our community. This need was recognized and answered by funds raised by the Pocomoke chapter of the Soroptimist Club.
Other programs offered at the shelter include a soup kitchen twice weekly and a food bank. Lunches at the soup kitchen are open to anyone in need and are prepared by our staff and faithful volunteers. Food bags are available to anyone in need.
The accountable environment offered at the shelter begins with an interview where the resident's unique needs are recognized and a custom plan of action is formulated. Yhis plan is then detailed on a daily activity list that documents each residents job search, housing progress and program compliance. This progress is daily followed up on by our staff. This structure is designed to motivate the residents toward the ultimate goal of re-achieving self-reliance.
A typical stay at the shelter is 30 days.
